Elegant and Sophisticated - Transitional Kitchen, Buffet and Media Room. These clients had an elegant and modern home; however, they desired a larger island to improve the functionality and scale of the room.  The kitchen layout remained in place, but we replaced their highly patterned granite with a more subtle look, using soapstone for the island countertop and changing the highly textured black stacked stone backsplash to a clean and classic marble, which lifts and lightens the space. The posts for the island were designed and matched to the client’s newel stair posts, bringing cohesiveness and structure to the kitchen.  The stainless steel sink was replaced with a Blanco Silgranit sink with an updated Moen stainless steel faucet.  To add a little fun, we used Elk Lighting polished nickel/zinc pendants, which had a slight modern farmhouse look.

Behind the kitchen was a breezeway with an open space that was not being used. We decided that it would be a perfect place for a buffet area since the adjoining room was the formal dining room and we were going to be adding a wine cooler at the end of the hallway. We added depth and elegance by adding a textured wall paper and can lights above the inset walnut cabinets. The flow and functionality of the space improved greatly, not to mention the added glitz made entertaining even more fun!

Lastly, the clients had a first level media room that was hardly being used.  It was a cold and impersonal room and the goal was to warm up the space while making it fun for both kids and adults.  We added an Acacia wood accent wall to highlight the room and to mount their TV and components. We also added a bit of warmth by backlighting their TV with a LED rope light. We designed the dry bar area with the same Cambria quartz countertop as the buffet and added a drop edge to create a clean dramatic edge. To accent the bar area, we installed a Mini Hexagon silvery backsplash tile to liven up the room. We were able to reuse the pendants from the kitchen, which worked out perfectly in size, scale and luminescence.  Custom shelving was designed as a fun way to utilize the jog in the corner of the room, making for an interesting place to display decor or drinkware.
