Farmhouse Renovation. Our client’s vision for this project evolved after they originally purchased this 20-acre parcel, with the intention of primarily preserving the land. The 1920’s farmhouse also included a cottage and barn, however there was a definite need for repair and restoration as the dwellings had suffered from serious deferred maintenance.
After much discussion, it was clear that keeping the character of the original home was important to our clients, but there was also a desire to modernize the space. To accomplish this, we used a mixed palette of warm and inviting materials; such as the Cambria Caribou Walnut butcher block island, Kentwood Oak Maderia Park floors and floating wooden shelves, coupled with the modern clean lines of the white subway tile, and Jet Black Caeserstone countertops. We also kept the farmhouse feel alive by incorporating Vintage Grey Palazzo Deco tile for the bathroom floors and adding a bit of a modern flair by using furniture styled vanities with marble countertops. We added an elegant but rustic detail to the home by using Restoration Hardware lighting fixtures, Emtek Rustic Living glass knobs, and oil rubbed bronze cabinet hardware to highlight the spaces.
Lastly, because the main home was going to be used in conjunction with the barn and acreage, it was important to design the basement with the intention of having it be an active mudroom or multi-purposed area. Keeping this in mind, we tiled the floor and finished off the bathroom and laundry area making it convenient for clean-up and storage.
This project brought great joy to our team as we were able to restore and modernize a home that had great character, while preserving this beautiful parcel of picturesque wetlands.
